As we walk together on the journey, it might help for you to know a little about me.
I've been married for 30 years to my wonderful wife Dawn. God has used our marriage as a strong and effective means of redemption, which is Bible language for "marriage has been a lot of very hard work that slowly transforms us into people who look more like Jesus!"
We have two adult children, Will and Laura. Will is married to a beautiful woman, Kat, and they have two beautiful children.
I have served as a pastor for 22 years, and was raised in a pastor's family. So, I've spent a lot of time around church. I've seen the beauty of the church, and I've seen some deep, traumatizing ugliness.
I did my undergraduate work at Reformed Bible College (now Kuyper College). I received my Master of Divinity at Calvin Theological Seminary, and my Doctor of Ministry degree at Denver Seminary. I also have my certificate in spiritual direction through Denver Seminary.
I'm learning that my calling from God is His transforming love. I just get knocked down when I see His love change me and others and the entire world. I have been fascinated with our union with Jesus for over 20 years, and I still feel like I barely understand this mystery. I am known in my church for constantly talking about our need to surrender. When I encourage someone to "let God do whatever He wants with whatever part of my life that He wishes", I wish that I had an easier answer for finding freedom and peace, but I've learned that there is no better answer. Nothing works better than letting God do whatever He wants, trusting that whatever He chooses is the best way for Him to show His unfailing love.
